Professor Danielle George CBE addresses ‘Science at the Heart of Security’
The Chief Scientific Adviser for National Security addressed an audience of technology experts and Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) members, in the Prince Philip Lecture 2026

Professor Danielle George CBE delivered The Prince Philip Lecture 2026 which explored the role of science and its impact on national security, and was chaired by Lord Evans of Weardale – a RUSI Distinguished Fellow and former Director General of MI5.
Titled "Science at the Heart of Security: Advice, Accountability and the Next Generation”, Professor George highlighted how the connection between the research community and national security priorities is vital, and voiced how important that the work on quantum computing, AI safety and advanced technologies is not developed in isolation from the policy environment.
The lecture continued to champion deep, wide and diverse STEM pipelines, and addressed to the audience how the capability decisions made today will determine security outcomes in the 2040s, as well as giving a glimpse into the role of Chief Scientific Adviser in the realm of UK intelligence.

About The Prince Philip Lecture on Military Education
Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Patron of RUSI, graciously approved the establishment of a yearly Prince Philip Lecture on Military Education in 2021 to honour the late Prince’s legacy, who launched a debate about the importance of military education in a speech delivered to RUSI in 1983.
