NCSC Annual Review 2026 - The State of the Cyber Nation
Looking back at the National Cyber Security Centre's tenth year and its key developments and highlights, between 1 September 2025 and 31 August 2026.
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), a part of GCHQ, is the UK’s technical authority for cyber security. Since 2016, it has worked to make the UK the safest place to live and work online, and bring clarity and insight to an increasingly complex online world.
As part of a national security agency, not all its work can be disclosed publicly, but the review seeks to describe the year with insights and facts from colleagues inside and out of the organisation.
In his foreword, NCSC CEO Dr Richard Horne said;
Over the past decade, we have built world-class cyber security capabilities, established the NCSC as a trusted authority at home and abroad, and strengthened partnerships with government, industry and academia.
Director GCHQ Anne Keast-Butler spoke of her pride in the work of the NCSC and the teams working to protect the UK's national security, economy and way of life.
New technologies are creating extraordinary opportunities for growth, innovation and prosperity. But they are also reshaping the cyber threat landscape. Artificial intelligence is accelerating change, increasing the scale and speed at which cyber threats can emerge, and exposing weaknesses in the technologies and systems we rely upon every day.
