At GCHQ, we believe that fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels respected, valued, and able to bring their authentic selves to work is fundamental to our mission and values.
Pride Month is an opportunity to reflect on our commitments and celebrate the diverse identities that make our community stronger.
Our Pride network, comprising members of the LGBTQ+ community alongside Pride Allies, have come together to reflect on the theme of ‘Everyday Allyship’ -the practical, personal actions that can foster a culture of inclusion. Below are some of the simple, everyday actions of allyship can make a real difference. Here are some examples:
“Understand the origins of Pride. Yes, you can wear rainbows and dance with us in parades but take time to understand the legacy of the protest and struggle that underlies it. Learn about the Stonewall uprising and the queer people of colour who played key roles. Then keep reading.” - Taylor
“Expand your reading, watching, and listening lists. Add some LGBTQ+ content into your mix. Especially as more queer stories now are being told by queer people, and not just about queer people. Actively seek out stories and perspectives you have had limited exposure to.” - Jordan
These reflections underscore GCHQ’s ongoing commitment to creating an environment where everyone feels respected, valued, and supported, not just during Pride Month, but every day. Embracing diversity and practicing genuine allyship helps us grow as an organisation. Together, we can ensure that inclusivity isn’t just a moment in June, but a defining part of who we are year-round.
