Director GCHQ addresses NATO Cyber Defence Pledge Conference 2019

The UK is a leading ally on NATO Cyber and GCHQ has a crucial role to play in contributing to the cyber resilience of the country and the alliance. GCHQ has a long history of supporting NATO operations and it is fitting that in our 100th year, and NATO’s 70th, we can take a leading role in shaping NATO’s cyber transformation through this conference.
At an evening reception last night, Director GCHQ spoke to ambassadors and officials from the 29 NATO member states. In his speech he talked of the need to work together to tackle common threats and to be prepared for cyber attacks against our countries. He stressed that our deterrence must go beyond cyber security and that what was needed was a framework that promotes the responsible projection of a nation’s cyber capabilities.
The second day of the conference is being hosted at GCHQ’s National Cyber Security Centre in London where the Foreign Secretary will speak.
