GCHQ Bude collaborates with local company to deliver STEM-based workshops

Staff from GCHQ Bude have been collaborating with local company Cognition Learning to introduce children to the world of technology, whilst providing a unique insight into the role we play in helping to keep the country safe. 

Through facilitated workshops, students have been learning how to create robots and use them to write and send secret messages.  Whilst collaborating on coding, they are given the opportunity to learn about a variety of concepts, from encryption to the safety and ethics of autonomous automation.

Partnering with Cognition Learning has enabled us to combine our resources and expertise. And together, working with local schools, we have been able to promote learning in science and technology in an exciting and engaging way. In addition to the workshops, we are also planning similar events with local GirlGuiding groups, raising the profile and encouraging more girls to actively engage with STEM subjects.

We’re really proud to have been able to offer these free, tailored sessions. And the feedback from both the students and our volunteers has been outstanding.
