Director GCHQ joins cyber industry experts to kick off CYBERUK 2026

As industry, academia, government and expertise joined together in Scotland for the 10th anniversary of CyberUK, Director joined Cyber & Specialist Operations Command (CSOC) Commander General Sir Rob Magowan in a panel discussion to reflect on the role of defensive and offensive cyber operations, and what the next decade demands of the UK’s collective cyber capability.
The two, alongside host - NCSC's CTO Beth Hopkins - reinforced GCHQ’s established position on cyber defence and highlighted the importance of a rich mix of minds and partnerships.

Earlier on Wednesday, CEO of our National Cyber Security Centre Dr Richard Horne set out the geopolitical context of CYBERUK and how the majority of nationally significant cyber incidents now originate directly or indirectly from nation states. He also highlighted a unique, but shrinking window to learn from the conflict in Ukraine how cyber has been used in conflict situations to shore up peacetime resilience at home.
