Investigatory Powers Bill enters the next stage in the Parliamentary process

The revised Investigatory Powers Bill goes before Parliament today. Designed to bring disparate areas of legislation together, and ensure the Security and Intelligence Agencies can continue to operate effectively now and in the future, the Bill also strengthens the safeguards and oversight regimes that govern our work.

Following pre-legislative scrutiny and the reports from the Intelligence Services Committee and Joint Committee, the Home Office has today presented the revised Draft IP Bill to Parliament. The Bill has undergone substantial revision in line with recommendations made last month.

The Investigatory Powers Bill will now enter the regular Parliamentary timetable with the aim of being granted Royal Assent by 31 December 2016.
