GCHQ wishes Her Majesty a happy 90th birthday
News article - 21 Apr 2016
Staff at GCHQ have designed and created a special birthday card as a tribute to the Queen. The image on the front of the card was of GCHQ’s Cheltenham headquarters, usually known as the 'Doughnut', altered to turn it into a giant birthday cake to mark the occasion.
The card was sent to Her Majesty by Director Robert Hannigan on behalf of GCHQ. It was delivered to the Palace in time for the Queen’s birthday on Thursday 21 April, and we are now releasing the image shown on the card for all to see.
To celebrate Her Majesty's official birthday, GCHQ staff are launching an internal charity bake-off, which will culminate in a 'street party' within the 'Doughnut'.
GCHQ will soon be celebrating a special birthday of its own with its upcoming Centenary in 2019. GCHQ’s roots date back to World War One, and by 2019 we will have been keeping Britain safe for 100 years.
