GCHQ volunteers take part in Local Civil Service volunteering day
The weather was kind and we completed a variety of tasks at Ruskin Mill College, including erecting a poly tunnel and composting. It was good to meet, work and network with colleagues from DWP who, as part of their Community 10,000 project, are given the opportunity to volunteer for a day with a local voluntary or community organisation.
The day was part of a Civil Service Local South West initiative which promotes community engagement and volunteering amongst civil servants.
As a result of Civil Service Local's cross-departmental collaborative approach, over the past two years, more than 800 Civil Servants from 25 departments have volunteered with a wide range of organisations, in a variety of settings.
Staff at Ruskin Mill said
'GCHQ and DWP are one of our regular volunteering groups, and we think they are great! They come with lots of enthusiasm and energy, and really get stuck into whatever we throw at them...
'These are all jobs which make a huge difference to the everyday use of the site, but which would have taken up weeks of the gardening team's time, so we are very grateful for having them all done and dusted in a day.
'Thank you GCHQ and DWP!'
