Draft Investigatory Powers Bill announced in Parliament
News article - 04 Nov 2015
The Home Secretary, the Rt Hon Theresa May MP, has today announced the publication of the draft Investigatory Powers Bill in Parliament.
The draft Bill will provide public authorities, including GCHQ, with the investigatory powers they need to address evolving threats within a changing communications environment, as well as providing the public with clarity and reassurance about how these powers and capabilities are used.
Over the coming weeks, the draft Bill will be examined by Parliament, who will make recommendations based on written and oral evidence they receive.
The draft Bill and associated publications, including Explanatory Notes for the draft Bill and a guide to the powers and safeguards, are available from the GOV.UK website.
