Mr Chalk, who was elected Conservative MP for Cheltenham in 2015, was welcomed by GCHQ Director Robert Hannigan, before receiving an overview of the intelligence agency and meeting staff to learn about their work.

Alex Chalk said: "I was delighted to visit GCHQ today. It was a very useful and constructive visit. The staff at this Cheltenham landmark are some of the most brilliant, dedicated and conscientious public servants in the country. They do a vital, and often unsung, job of keeping us safe and it was a pleasure to meet them."
