In addition to comprehensive learning and development,
we offer two enhanced development schemes.
Professional Technologist Trainee Scheme
The Professional Technologist Trainee Scheme is accredited by the
IEE, IIE and BCS, and provides an opportunity for all Technologists
who fulfil the institutions' requirements to qualify for Incorporated
or Chartered Engineer status.
This is achieved on the job, with support from management, technical
mentors and the scheme manager using an approved and structured
ongoing process of Continuous Personal Development.
Overseen by senior technical sponsors, the scheme enables Technologists
to gain validation for their technical expertise from respected
external institutions, including payment of the annual membership
fees of the chosen institution(s).
Entry to this is by application to the scheme manager on joining
GCHQ.
Gateway Development Programme
The Gateway Development Programme is not confined to Technologists.
It is a tailored development programme open to those who have worked
at GCHQ for at least 12 months.
A response to the Modernising Government 'Bringing on Talent' initiative
and GCHQ's own Blueprint, it is aimed at developing the skills of
those with the most potential, at all levels and in all skills disciplines,
regardless of age, grade or qualifications.
The form of the scheme will vary for each individual - for example
some may want to train as project managers, some as software engineers.
The scheme will last between 1 and 3 years, during which participants
will be offered the tools and skills to develop via a tailored mixture
of placements, secondments, training, mentoring and advice from
the scheme manager.
Entry is by application form and interview ONLY after 12 months
satisfactory employment at GCHQ.
