Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal visited the
new GCHQ headquarters today to gain an insight into how the intelligence
centre supports British troops.
In her capacity as Colonel-in-Chief, Royal Corps of Signals, The
Princess Royal today made a private visit to GCHQ's new headquarters
in Cheltenham. The visit focused on how GCHQ protects our military
forces, providing them with vital intelligence on a timely basis
and ensuring that their communications are secure.
A GCHQ spokesman commented: "It was a great honour to entertain
The Princess. She received a number of briefings on our military
support function and she was very interested in all aspects of this
work."
The GCHQ building, commonly known as the Doughnut, was officially
opened by Her Majesty the Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh,
on Thursday 25 March.
