Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, visited GCHQ on Friday
28th October. GCHQ's Director, Sir David Pepper, and his team gave
Mr Straw confidential briefings on a range of issues.
Sir David said 'We were delighted that the Foreign Secretary was
able to visit GCHQ again, and meet some more of the people responsible
for the work we do.'
GCHQ falls under the responsibility of Mr Straw as the Minister
responsible for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. The visit was
very much business as usual, providing GCHQ's Director with the
opportunity to update the Foreign Secretary on important aspects
of our work.
Mr Straw's visit co-incided with GCHQ's second annual lunch arranged
for local civic figures. The event, held at the main Benhall building,
is aimed at building and developing ties between GCHQ and the local
community. In opening the event Sir David Pepper outlined the extraordinary
challenges facing GCHQ. He said 'this is a wonderful opportunity
to say thank you and express our appreciation of the positive co-operation
we continue to enjoy with our partners in Gloucestershire.'
