Director Sir David Pepper paid tribute to the GCHQ Microsoft
Challenger 2006 team on Friday when presenting a cheque for £5,500 to
the NSPCC.
On handing over the cheque to Lisa Clift, Community Appeals Manager for the
Gloucestershire division, he praised the team for their "fantastic effort
and overall commitment" in raising such an outstanding amount of money.
Lisa also highlighted the remarkable achievement by the team and its importance
to the NSPCC: "Your efforts will help vulnerable children across the UK.
The levels of energy and enthusiasm are a constant surprise to us. Everyone
deserves to be proud." In 2005 the NSPCC HelpLine received over 1,500
calls from the Gloucestershire area.
The Microsoft Challengers Trophy is the most advanced and diverse corporate
team challenge in the World. To succeed participants need to be fit, mentally
sharp and able to work as a team.
The 2006 event was held in Ayrshire and on the Isle of Arran and consisted
of four days and nights of gruelling physical and mental team challenges in
which teamwork and strategy played a vital role. This year there were over
120 teams from a wide variety of UK and European companies, all competing for
the coveted Challenger trophy.
The wide range of challenges faced included building a water wheel, mountain
biking and running through forests, canoeing around lochs and cracking codes.
The GCHQ team finished a very creditable eighth overall, narrowly missing out
on retaining the Public Sector trophy.
Preparations for Challenger 2007, to be held in Yorkshire, are now well underway
with GCHQ's team members being recruited.
