GCHQ - Government Communications Headquarters - is looking for people to join their new Higher Apprenticeship programme. Starting in September 2012, the 2-year programme will heavily invest in talented local individuals to give them all the necessary skills to succeed in the unique field of intelligence and security work. On top of funding all the training and providing appropriate support, GCHQ will pay successful applicants an annual salary of £16,706, with access to a range of other benefits (such as flexible working arrangements and a Civil Service pension). In addition, individuals will complete the programme with a foundation degree and a Level 4 Diploma in IT Professional Competence, and secure a permanent position at GCHQ.
With future economic predictions so gloomy the programme really does provide a fascinating career opening: training, salary, qualifications and permanent employment.
A spokesperson for GCHQ comments:
“We’re really excited about this new way for people to join GCHQ and have developed the programme deliberately with the local community in mind. With the cost of going to university rising, we consider that this scheme offers a really viable alternative for individuals, which allows them to start earning from day one!”
GCHQ is accepting applications until 26th February 2012. This will be the only chance applicants will have to apply for the programme this year. Candidates must have or expect to achieve by September 2012:
- 3 A-Levels at grades A-C (with at least 2 A- Levels in either science, technology, engineering or maths (STEM) subjects.
or
- Qualifications in STEM subjects which are equivalent to a minimum of 300 UCAS points
